Port Adelaide star defender Gavin Wanganeen has been ruled out of Saturday's AFL clash with Essendon at Telstra Dome.

He is also in doubt for the Power's following match against fellow top four side Melbourne at AAMI Stadium, the club said on Monday.

Wanganeen has been out of the side since the round 15 match against Carlton, when he suffered a calf injury during the warm-up and was a late withdrawal from Port's side.

Three players - Brett Montgomery, Stuart Cochrane and Brett Ebert - will be pushing to return to the side against the Bombers, after injury lay-offs.

But it will be tough for all three to find spots, with Port having suffered no injuries in Sunday's win over West Coast, its sixth straight victory.
