Essendon bombs again
Port Adelaide's poise and class was irresistible as it smashed Essendon by 50 points in their AFL match at Telstra Dome.
Port key forward Warren Tredrea was best afield with seven goals as the Power pulled away in the last term to win 23.8 (146) to 14.12 (96).
Essendon kicked the first two goals of the last term to trail by only 15 points, but Port kicked the next six goals to kill off the contest.
It was Port's sixth win from the past seven games.
Essendon midfielder Mark Mercuri had to be stretchered off midway through the last term after a collision with Peter Burgoyne knocked him senseless.
The Bombers seriously challenged Port several times, but the Power always managed to first calm the game and then counter-attack effectively.
Tredrea was unstoppable, taking 10 marks and always damaging when Port kicked long into attack.
Roger James and Peter Burgoyne led the Port midfield, which was more skilful than its opposition and hurt Essendon whenever the ball was turned over.
As always, Gavin Wanganeen's sweeper role in defence set up many Port attacks.
Bit-player Cory McGrath sparked Essendon's third-term revival with three goals, while youngster Marcus Bullen impressed and Mark Johnson worked hard in the midfield.
