Coach ejected as Crocs beat Hawks 108-98
The ejection of Townsville coach Trevor Gleeson sparked his side to a 108-98 victory over arch enemies Wollongong at the Townsville Entertainment Centre.
Gleeson's frustration boiled over midway through the third quarter when a contentious turnover ruling went against the home side.
The furious coach charged onto the court to challenge match officials before being ordered to the rooms.
Corey Williams was the destroyer for Townsville with a game-high 31, including a 13-point second quarter blitz, while Larry Davidson 25 and import Kavossy Franklin 20 kept their side in the contest.
Wollongong broke out to a five-point lead in the opening exchanges however some committed Townsville defence and hot perimeter shooting from John Rillie brought the deficit back to one.
Townsville came out full of energy after the break with Corey Williams confirming his MVP status erupting with 13 second quarter points to lock it up 55-55 at the half.
The game burst into life with the ejection of Gleeson, both sides going blow for blow before Townsville shot out to a 81-75 lead at the final break.
The visitors fought back to within striking distance on the back of some inspired shooting from Larry Davidson but Townsville hung on to maintain their place in the eight.
