Webb not interested in playing men
Forget it, Tony Roosenburg.
Karrie Webb isn't interested in playing golf against the men. And she wants you to stop using her name to drum up publicity.
Roosenburg, director of the Australian PGA and Heineken Classic tournaments on the Australasian PGA Tour, said last week he wanted Webb and trail-blazing Swede Annika Sorenstam to accept invitations to play with the big boys next summer.
Webb's reply: Thanks, but no thanks.
"For the promoters of the Heineken Classic to now suggest that I'd be willing to accept an invitation to play in their event (with whom I have had no contact with to date) shows me that they are merely trying to gain free publicity for their event," 28-year-old Webb said on Friday in a statement released by her management company.
"Regarding me playing in a men's PGA event, I have expressed my views many times during these past five months that it's something I simply choose not to pursue.
"I would like to think the challenges I already have are definitely hard enough."
Sorenstam, 32, became the first female player to compete on the US PGA Tour for 58 years when she took part in the Colonial tournament at Fort Worth, Texas.
The world No.1 women's golfer missed the cut by four strokes with rounds of 71 and 74 for a total of five-over-par.
Webb is ranked third in the world.
