Norman to join Woods at Dubai Classic
Former world No.1 Greg Norman is to make a rare tournament appearance at next month's Dubai Desert Classic.
The 51-year-old Australian will join the likes of Tiger Woods, Ernie Els and Colin Montgomerie in a strong European Tour field at the Emirates Golf Club from February 1-4.
"The presence of a colourful personality like Norman will certainly spice up the flavour of our tournament," said Mohamed Juma Buamaim, vice chairman of golf in Dubai, in a news release.
"With players like Greg and Tiger, we couldn't have asked for a better field."
Norman has over 80 tournament wins to his name, including two British Opens, and held the No.1 ranking for 331 weeks.
Equally aggressive in business, Norman has created a mini-empire that extended his 'Shark' brand from golf clothing and equipment to real estate, wine and grass specially suited for golf courses.
He is actively involved with work on the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai.
"I am excited to be part of the incredible story that is Dubai. No place in the world has this kind of vision, leadership and entrepreneurial spirit," said Norman.
Woods won last year's Dubai Desert Classic in a playoff with Els.
