Shoaib fined for Hayden send-off
Shoaib Akhtar's jubilant send-off for Australian batsman Matthew Hayden cost the Pakistan paceman dearly as he was fined an estimated $5,000 for the gesture.
Shoaib was docked 40 per cent of his match fee for pointing to the dressing room three times with both index fingers when he dismissed Hayden lbw.
The incident happened in the third over of the first Test at the WACA ground.
Shoaib went before a hearing conducted by match referee Ranjan Madugalle after umpires Billy Bowden and Rudi Koertzen and third umpire Steve Davis all booked the speedster.
Shoaib, whose hearing was held after the play, was charged with a level one offence for "pointing and gesturing towards the pavilion in an aggressive manner by the bowler upon the dismissal of a batsman".
It was not known whether Shoaib pleaded guilty.
The penalty completed a mixed day for the 29-year-old, who bagged 5-99 in Australia's first innings 381.
That was his first five-wicket haul in Australia and he also made 27 in a 60-run stand with fellow tailender Mohammad Sami in the tourists' first-innings 179.
But Shoaib left the ground close to stumps with an injury scare.
He hobbled off after appearing to injure his right ankle while bowling the final over of the day.
