Richmond coach hits back at Sheedy spray
Richmond has hit back at Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy, accusing him of unloading on the Tigers to deflect attention from his own club's problems.
Sheedy, whose Bombers have lost seven games straight and are a game adrift on the bottom of the AFL ladder, on Sunday launched an extraordinary attack on Richmond's tactics.
He described the keepings-off ploy the Tigers used to achieve a stunning upset of Adelaide on Saturday as "basketball crap" which would not take a side anywhere.
Richmond football director Greg Miller said it was a classic Sheedy attempt to shift the focus from the Bombers.
"As a club we're not concerned at all," Miller said.
"We know how we play our footy.
"Kevin's well-known for his diversionary tactics, his club's lost seven in a row.
"That's his style, we look forward to the next time we play them."
As for the accusation it would not help the Tigers develop a premiership side, Miller said it was a one-off strategy which achieved the desired result.
"That's one game, go back two weeks ago when we played Essendon, what sort of style was that? It was a fast, free-flowing game," Miller said of Richmond's two-point win in round six.
"The tactics on the weekend served a purpose, we're very proud and pleased with the win."
