Embattled Richmond backs coach
Richmond again publicly backed coach Danny Frawley amid more bad news for the embattled AFL club.
Last year's best-and-fairest winner Mark Coughlan will be sidelined at least for the next few weeks with a groin problem that has troubled him since the start of the season.
Monday was captain Wayne Campbell's turn to front the media and support Frawley, after president Clinton Casey said two days ago the board would reconsider the coach's future if he lost the confidence of the players.
Friday night's embarrassing 75-point loss to Adelaide was the latest in a month of poor form and the team was subjected to abuse and spitting as it left the field.
"We're 100 per cent behind Danny, the players love the way he goes about things and are completely committed to him," Campbell said.
When asked if players had spoken to the board about Frawley's future, Campbell replied: "It's not our job, we're just here to play, I wouldn't think I'd be fronting the board and telling them what to do.
"They can do whatever they have to do.
"The ball is in Clinton's court."
Board member Anthony Mithen said the board had started thinking about the coaching position for next season, but only because Frawley was in the last year of his contract.
"There is a plan in place, given that Danny comes out of contract," Mithen said.
