Fresh legs for Socceroos' return match
Coach Frank Farina has promised team changes to shore up the Socceroos' strong hold on a spot in next year's soccer showpiece, the Confederations Cup.
After a "fantastic" 5-1 result in the opening qualifying game against the Solomon Islands in Honiara on Saturday, Farina will inject new players into Tuesday night's return leg in Sydney to ensure his players get to participate in Germany.
"Some changes will be made purely and simply because of the short turn around time and fatigue. Fresh players, Fresh legs is always good," said Farina on arrival in Sydney.
But Farina will also be looking to expose more of his 18-man squad to his attacking four-three-three playing system at Aussie Stadium.
"A few changes to the playing personal will be made giving people a chance to play in the new system which we haven't played too much before.
"That will be the biggest thing to come out of it (the second leg)."
Included in the changes is the likely return of star export Harry Kewell who missed the trip to Honiara to continue treatment on a niggling groin injury.
Farina says Kewell's chances of playing were "quite good".
"I think he's had a couple of runs on his own but we'll see once he gets out on the park with the lads, with the ball," Farina said.
"But we're hopeful because that was the main reason for sending him back down here, to get him fit."
