Rockliff wins AFL Lions best and fairest
Brisbane young gun Tom Rockliff took out the Merrett-Murray Medal on Saturday night as the Lions' best and fairest for the 2011 AFL season.
Despite a mostly dismal year in which the Lions finished with just four wins, Rockliff was a rare shining light and the 21-year-old narrowly edged out veteran Simon Black to win the award.
Rockliff polled 37.5 votes, just ahead of Black on 35.5 and fellow young gun Jack Redden (35 votes), to become the club's youngest ever best and fairest winner.
Black won the club's players' player and members' player of the year awards, while Patrick Karnezis was named rookie of the year.
