Henman ousts Philippoussis
Tim Henman reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon for the eighth time in nine years with a 6-2, 7-5, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (5) win Monday over Mark Philippoussis, a finalist last year.
After leading 6-3 in the fourth-set tiebreaker, Henman closed on his fifth match point when Philippoussis' backhand return drifted wide.
The fifth-seeded Henman had two match points on Philippoussis' serve in the eighth game of the fourth set but the Australian held, then broke and held again to level at 5-5.
Philippoussis got a warning from chair umpire Enric Molina for an audible obscenity in the third set when he disputed a call on a Henman ace that forced a tiebreaker in the third.
