Eagles fine and suspend Lynch
The West Eagles fined defender Quinten Lynch $5000 and suspended him for one AFL match after he was charged with various traffic offences.
Lynch was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving in the early hours.
He was at the club for a training session, but was sent home before returning for an afternoon weights session.
West Coast Eagles chief executive Trevor Nisbett emerged from a Football Affairs Committee meeting to announce the club's sanctions against Lynch.
"The football affairs committee met this evening and made a decision on Quinten Lynch and may I say it's obviously a serious offence," Nisbett said.
"We looked at all aspects of Quinten's career and where we're heading as a football club. We've decided that we will fine Quinten Lynch the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement which is $5,000.
"He will certainly be unavailable for selection this week which obviously is hurting him financially as well. He will be making a statement after his court appearance on Thursday and we're also looking at community service programs which we can get Quinten involved in at his request because he believes he has made a mistake.
"He's very remorseful and he wants to attempt to rectify not only his image but also the image of his family, the football club and the members of the football club as well - the supporters he's believed he's let down.
"Drinking is legal and players have to make a choice as a professional as to when, where and how much (they drink) and they should be drinking in moderation. They should be responsible for their actions. A professional player should not have been in that situation - or put other people in that situation - and we're very thankful that no-one was hurt and no-one was injured with this mistake.
"Those people who know Quinten Lynch know him to be a very nice young man. The problem he's made is that he's made a very, very grave and serious mistake.
