Leppitsch playing the waiting game
Brisbane vice-captain Justin Leppitsch will play the waiting game on whether he will be included in the Lions side for Saturday night's season opener against Sydney at the Gabba.
With Jonathan Brown missing due to suspension and full forward Alastair Lynch in doubt with a thigh strain, Leppitsch could return to the senior team despite not having played a minute of pre-season football.
After being granted clearance by team medico to play, Leppitsch said it was up to coach Leigh Matthews on whether he returned against Sydney or through the reserves.
"It was a combination of medical and coaching decisions but it is more of a coaching decision now than medical because I've been given the all-clear to play," Leppitsch said.
"He (Matthews) is definitely pondering on it and hasn't made a decision yet, we're all waiting, unfortunately."
Leppitsch, who underwent off-season shoulder surgery, trained on Wednesday night along captain Michael Voss, who confirmed on Tuesday night he would play.
Lynch only completed laps and went into the rooms for treatment.
Leppitsch said he was unsure how long he would be able to last on the field, let alone what position he could play.
"The ideal scenario for me is not to be running around at centre half forward for four quarters this weekend and I think that's where the problem lies with Leigh," he said.
"Leigh doesn't want to start me there and find out half way through the game that I have to come off."
