Pittman passes fitness test easily
Fears world champion Jana Pittman's misaligned pelvis could upset her Olympic prospects eased when she received the all-clear after racing flat out in the 100 metres.
A beefed-up Pittman was so confident all was well after the sprint she begged coach Phil King to allow her to run the first five jumps in her pet event, the 400m hurdles.
But given it had been almost a fortnight since she had completed a hurdles session, he refused.
Pittman finished seventh in her 100m heat in a time of 12.26 seconds, well behind her personal best of 11.77s.
But the race was about testing the reigning world champion's pelvis injury, which has affected her lower back and knee and forced her to withdraw from last weekend's Brisbane meet.
"What it means is my knee is better," Pittman said after the race.
"If I can run flat out, there can't be anything wrong with that.
"If I can run 100, I can run anything really, physically."
To control the injury, Pittman will have her pelvis manipulated every second day and she's lost two kilograms in the past week to take some weight off her hips.
"Now that the muscles are used to it being out they just pull out again straight away," she said.
