Pittman wins 400m hurdles
Australia's Jana Pittman won the women's world 400 metres hurdles title to add to the Commonwealth Games crown she won last year.
The 20-year-old triumphed in a personal best time of 53.22sec to beat Sandra Glover of the United States while world record holder Yuliya Pechonkina of Russia took the bronze.
Pechonkina had gone out like a rocket and, turning into the straight, Pittman was metres back but the Russian tired approaching the penultimate hurdle.
Pittman gained on her and by the final one she was alongside her and went past while 34-year-old Glover also passed the Russian almost on the line.
For Pechonkina it was a disappointing end to a dramatic year.
She suffered two minor strokes early on then broke the world record but her hopes of turning silver last time into gold were to be dashed.
