Lazaridis ready to return for Glory

The return of Stan Lazaridis to training may not be the only bit of good news for Perth Glory this week, following the encouraging signs from striker Eugene Dadi on day one of his week's trial with the A-League club.

The exile of former Socceroo Lazaridis will officially end on Tuesday, the end of his backdated 12-month ban for failing a drugs test.

And while Glory fans and owners will be desperate for an immediate return for Lazaridis against Melbourne Victory this weekend, coach Dave Mitchell said he was keeping an open mind - as he was about former Aberdeen frontman Dadi.

"Eugene is a quality striker and we have been looking for one of those. He is willing to come over and back himself," Mitchell said.

"The opportunity came at the start of the season when we maybe could have had a look at him, but unfortunately we weren't quick enough.

"I know a lot of people around the world in football, so I have done a bit of background check and certainly everything I heard was positive."

With spells in Austria, France, Scotland and England, Dadi paid his own way to Perth arriving on Sunday night after his most recent home in Israel with Hapoel Acre.

And despite a case of jet lag the 34-year-old, who also counts fashion designing in his varied CV, said he was happy to be in Perth and to have a chance at signing.

"I have enjoyed what I have seen, and I have heard good things about the league. The Glory have given me the opportunity to come over, and I am quite happy to be here," Dadi said.

Lazaridis will finally return to training following the FFA ban for his positive test for finasteride, a hair loss treatment which is also considered a masking agent by the World Anti Doping Agency.

Banned from training as well as playing, Lazaridis was forced to rely on kickabouts with former players to attempt to keep his fitness up.

And while Mitchell admitted to feeling some pressure to pick his star recruit straight away, fitness levels would determine his involvement against Melbourne.

"A player of his quality coming back into the side will be great. We have just to see how Stan is fitness wise, because he hasn't trained with us," Mitchell said

"Whether he will be fit enough to take part this weekend, I am not sure, it will be great to have him in the squad."

Mitchell will also be able to choose from his Olyroos contingent, including defender Nikolai Topor-Stanley and goalkeeper Tando Velaphi, who have missed the last two A-League games.

Their return ended the temporary loan signings of Ante Kovacevic and Mark Lee.
