Hopes ruled out of Twenty20 clash
James Hopes' breakthrough tour of India has come to a premature end with a hamstring strain ruling him out of Saturday's Twenty 20 clash against India.
The Queensland allrounder suffered the injury in the final match of Australia's seven-game one-day series against India on Wednesday at Wankhede Stadium.
"James won't be right for the Twenty20, he has strained his hamstring," said coach Tim Nielsen.
The complaint is a disappointing way for him to finish the tour where he has been a very handy contributor in all seven matches.
He made some handy late forays with the bat at No.7 averaging 27.20 at a strike rate of 120.35 and collected six wickets at 29.16 with an economy rate of 4.60 with his nagging medium-pacers.
Matthew Hayden is still trying to prove his fitness for the final match of the tour, the left-hander having his first net session since injuring his hip last week.
There will be plenty of expectation for the Twenty20 clash at the Brabourne Stadium. It pits the reigning World Cup holders against the newly-crowned Twenty20 world champions in India's first clash in that form of the game since last month's triumph in South Africa.
