Davico out of NSW Country side
In another injury blow to the NSW Country side, prop Luke Davico has been ruled out of Friday's Origin trial against City at Gosford after breaking a rib in a rugby league practice match at The Entrance.
The Canberra Raiders enforcer came off the field early in Country's 20 minute practice clash with Jim Beam Cup champions The Tigers and received treatment but was soon ruled out of the annual NSW Origin selection trial.
A team spokesman said a replacement for Country bench forward Davico would be announced on Thursday.
It was the second injury blow delivered to Country since the side was named on Sunday.
Davico's Canberra teammate, winger Joel Monaghan, lasted barely an hour in the side before being ruled out with a calf strain and replaced by Dragons flyer Nathan Blacklock.
On the NRL injury front, Broncos prop Shane Webcke will know the full extent of his back injury when he undergoes a scan.
The hulking forward was ruled out of the Broncos' NRL clash against the Raiders at Canberra and spent Wednesday at home resting what is believed to be a protruding disc he aggravated against the Bulldogs last weekend.
Webcke joined pivot Darren Lockyer (ribs) and hooker Barry Berrigan (neck) on the sidelines for this weekend, prompting a rush on Canberra at SportsTAB.
After the markets opened at 10.15am, in five minutes more than $30,000 was placed on Canberra to defeat Brisbane on Sunday.
There was also $40,000 on last-placed Manly to upset St George Illawarra, which will be without Trent Barrett (hamstring) and Mark Gasnier (hamstring) while another four players are hoping to back up from the City-Country match.
