Warwick Farm horses test positive
Saturday's race meeting at Rosehill has been abandoned after two horses at Warwick Farm tested positive to equine influenza (EI).
It is the first confirmed case of the virus at the western Sydney track which had previously been EI free.
The positive tests results were confirmed by Racing NSW chief executive Peter V'Landys who also said the planned race meeting for Rosehill and Warwick Farm horses was now off.
The Rosehill meeting was to be the first attended by the public since the outbreak of EI late last month.
The Randwick stabling area is already in lock down after the highly contagious virus swept through its 700-strong racehorse population.
The news of EI hitting Warwick Farm came a day trainers after decided against boycotting the Rosehill meeting despite not receiving hoped for assurances from the federal and state governments that their horses would be vaccinated against EI as a priority.
Vials of the vaccine are due in Australia next week.
