Penrith hooker Paul Aiton has re-signed with the club until the end of the 2009 NRL season.

Aiton, who made his NRL debut last year, has spent much of the 2007 coming off the bench.

But the Panthers expect the 22-year-old to be pushing for a regular starting spot next year.

"Paul has been in our top squad for some time now and I'm sure he'll be pushing for a regular starting spot next season," Panthers football manager Michael Leary said.

Aiton's return gives Penrith added depth at hooker, with former Test rake Luke Priddis contracted until the end of next year and Keith Peters, who will start against Brisbane at CUA Stadium on Saturday night, recently re-signed for a further two years.
