Phoenix post win, Sydney down Adelaide
Unbeaten national netball league leaders Melbourne Phoenix have surged to a big win and Sydney maintained their recent domination of Adelaide in round eight matches played on Friday night.
Phoenix made it eight wins from as many matches with a crushing 67-39 home win over Hunter, while Sydney consolidated second spot with a 48-46 away victory over the Thunderbirds.
Phoenix dominated the first three quarters before a shared final period.
In Adelaide, Sydney trailed early on, but took control with nine straight goals to lead at every change.
Australian squad shooter Susan Pratley starred for the Swifts with 27 from 29 attempts, while her national squad team mate Kristen Hughes struggled for Adelaide netting 21 goals, just 63 per cent.
It was Sydney's sixth straight win over Adelaide and the result pushed the Thunderbirds down to fourth, below Melbourne Kestrels, which scored a 50-48 home win over struggling Perth in the early match of the Melbourne double header.
Queensland Firebirds moved level on points with Adelaide but remained fifth on percentage following their 55-48 away win over bottom of the table AIS Canberra Darters.
Prolific shooter Jo Morgan scored 44 goals for Queensland, who trailed at halftime.
