Carlton re-signs Walker, Kennedy
Carlton have signed young guns Andrew Walker and Josh Kennedy to new two-year deals which tie them to the AFL club until the end of 2009.
The Blues announced deals for midfielder Walker, 21, who has played 66 games since 2004, and tall forward Kennedy, 19, who has played 17 games in the past two seasons.
Carlton chief executive Greg Swann said the new contracts were exciting for the club after successive wins and ahead of Friday night's round 12 game against Hawthorn.
"We are delighted to secure the services of Andrew and Josh for a further two seasons," Swann said.
"They are important young players, one a midfielder and the other a key-position forward, who will play major roles in the long-term future of the Carlton Football Club."
Walker, the No.2 pick in the 2003 national draft, made an instant impact in his debut game and has since proven himself as one of the Blues' best midfielders.
"It's an exciting time to be involved with the club," Walker said.
"We have been through the hard times and we all want to be a part of the good times that we know aren't too far away.
"I am looking forward to a successful future and I really want to be a part of Carlton's next premiership team."
Kennedy was the No.4 pick in the 2005 draft and has shown some encouraging signs in his early games, although he was overlooked in the past two rounds.
"I am delighted to have re-signed with Carlton," Kennedy said.
"The club has shown faith in me and I want to re-pay its faith.
"As a group we see a real future for team success and together, we want to be a part of it."
