New Personal Conduct Policy for AFL
The AFL Commission has looked to American football in drawing up a Personal Conduct Code for misbehaving players, News Limited has reported.
From next year, players found guilty of criminal offences, including domestic violence, sex offences and assault, will face suspension or banishment from the competition.
The policy, to be included in standard player contracts, will be based heavily on the conduct policy introduced last month in the American National Football League.
It will greatly broaden what constitutes conduct unbecoming.
"The NFL policy is a very good one," AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou told News Limited.
"We have borrowed other things from the NFL and we are looking closely at their conduct policy.
"We plan to introduce ours next year."
