McCrone extends NRL stay at Raiders
Young Canberra playmaker Josh McCrone has extended his contract with the NRL club until the end of 2014.
Off contract at the end of 2012, the 24-year-old has signed for another two seasons after shining in a disastrous year for the Raiders.
"With what's been a pretty disappointing season with the club, Josh has been one of the positives out of that, his form has been consistent all year and he's shown a lot of improvement," assistant coach Andrew McFadden said.
"Given the circumstances this year and missing (injured five-eighth) Terry Campese, Josh has had to take a lot of the responsibilities on his shoulders and, I think to be fair, he's done a pretty good job."
As well as linchpin Campese, Canberra struggled to get big-name signing Matt Orford onto the field because of a groin injury.
Orford will exit the club, leaving McCrone and Campese to battle with youngsters Sam Williams and Michael Picker for the two halves positions.
The Raiders board recently implemented a sweeping review of the club's performance after it finished second last with just six wins for the year.
