Welsh prop Jenkins out of RWC opener
Wales won't count on injured loosehead prop Gethin Jenkins being fit for their Rugby World Cup opener against South Africa in less than a month.
Jenkins, capped 76 times, had toe surgery seven months ago but has since struggled with a calf complaint.
He hasn't played for Wales since a loss to New Zealand nine months ago, but he's likely to be included in the World Cup squad announced on Monday.
Wales coach Warren Gatland said on Wednesday that while Jenkins will probably miss their tournament opener in New Zealand on September 11, the British and Irish Lions star should be available for the second pool game against Samoa a week later.
"We have had him re-scanned, and there is some damage in the calf," Gatland said.
"I would say it probably rules him out of contention for the South Africa game if selected (for the squad). He is as frustrated as anyone.
"We know what a quality player he is, and the hope is he will show signs of improvement and maybe we will be able to consider him for other games in the World Cup."
