Folau bags three, GWS down Swans' seconds
A three-goal haul from Israel Folau boosted Greater Western Sydney to their first Aussie Rules victory over Sydney's reserves on Saturday.
Folau slotted the opening goal in GWS's 64-point win over the Swans' seconds, who had won by at least ten goals in the two sides' three previous encounters.
Giants senior assistant coach Mark Williams suggested the 18.13 (121) to 9.3 (57) result at Blacktown was a sign of how much his young side had developed in the 2011 North East AFL (NEAFL) season.
"Our players are improving, there's no doubt about that. We've been working at it for a long time," Williams said on the club's website.
"We're mindful that the Swans had some players out today but obviously we had some players out as well.
"This was a great win for our club ... (it) gives our supporters, sponsors, players and staff some confidence in the side and where we're heading.
"We're looking forward to the rest of the year."
Williams was impressed with Folau, praising the NRL convert's ability to impose himself at the beginning of the match.
"Generally he's been getting most of his goals in the second half of the game, it was great to see that he was so lively in the first half," Williams said.
The week's rain had forced Saturday's clash to be moved from the SCG to Blacktown.
The Giants led at every break and held a 36-point advantage at halftime.
Earlier in the year the Swans' reserves had thumped GWS, recording a crushing 98-point win at ANZ Stadium, a 60-point triumph in Canberra and a 86-point win at Blacktown.
There are five more NEAFL rounds remaining before the finals.
