Folau could jump ship from NRL to AFL
The AFL's Greater Western Sydney franchise has refused to comment on speculation linking it to NRL star Israel Folau.
The Brisbane Broncos flier is expected to make an announcement on his future on Friday with new Super rugby team the Melbourne Rebels supposedly his preferred destination but reports have linked him with a multi-million dollar move to AFL.
GWS chief executive Dale Holmes only muddied the waters further by refusing to confirm or deny if his team had secured Folau's signature.
"Ever since the Gold Coast signed Karmichael Hunt we've had every man and his dog assigned to us," Holmes told Sydney's Sky Sports Radio on Friday.
"Jarryd Hayne, apparently we tried to do a deal there which is not true, recently we've had Inglis and Slater and now it's supposed to be Folau. Could be Tendulkar next I think.
"I'm not going to make a comment or speculate on that because we've had too many people already speculating on it ... we're not going to make any comment on any speculation, that's the principle we believe in."
It's been rumoured the 21-year-old Test and Origin centre - who is very similar in build to Brisbane full forward Johnathan Brown at 195cm and 104kg - is in possession of a multi-million dollar offer.
Folau has to notify his NRL club on Friday if he is taking up a get out clause in his four year contract to leave the Broncos at the end of the season.
Reports on Channel Nine's Footy Show on Thursday night said Folau had already been "tested" by the AFL who had made him a mind-boggling three-year offer believed to be worth $1 million a season.
Holmes even refused to speculate on whether he felt Folau would be a success at Aussie Rules football.
"I don't know, he can obviously jump," Holmes said when asked if Folau could make the transition.
"But there's a whole lot more to our game than just jumping and marking so good question. Not sure of the answer to be honest."
