Brisbane backrower Corey Parker has denied the Broncos' NRL clash with ladder leaders Melbourne on Friday will be the club's toughest challenge so far this season.

With both clubs running into form with impressive wins at the weekend and with their history, the heavyweight clash should bring out the best in both sides.

But Parker, who forced his way back into the Queensland State of Origin side this season, said the Broncos had faced some big challenges already this season, and tackling the Storm at AAMI Park would just be another test for them.

"Melbourne are the benchmark of the competition. They're on top, so it will be a good game to see where we're at," said Parker on Monday.

Brisbane put 20 points on the Gold Coast in the second half at the weekend and kept the Titans scoreless, while the Storm flexed their muscle keeping Canberra scoreless for the entire 80 minutes.

"We're fairly honest here and we know there are some areas we still need to fix up," said Parker.

"There's always a huge amount of respect between Brisbane and Melbourne because of our past history and there's been some really good battles.

"We're expecting a fairly hostile crowd down there and a really tough game."

Brisbane forward Josh McGuire escaped a charge after being reported for a high tackle on Greg Bird at the weekend.

Prop Scott Anderson trained after missing the win over the Titans following an asthma attack leading up to the game, but skipper Darren Lockyer was an absentee with a club official saying he was "crook".

Meanwhile young outside back Dale Copley could miss two or three weeks after being diagnosed with a high ankle sprain.
