Smith rates Farah bigger test than Ennis
Queensland hooker Cameron Smith has the lit the fuse on a potentially fiery encounter with Michael Ennis by declaring Robbie Farah the Blues' best No.9 option for the State of Origin opener.
But the Australian Test rake doesn't think Blues selectors will go for the more creative Farah and he expects to pack down opposite the gritty Ennis for the May 25 Origin clash at Suncorp Stadium.
Smith was asked on Tuesday who he'd least like to face of Blues hooking contenders Ennis, Farah or Dean Young.
"I think Robbie Farah, given that he's got a lot of tricks to his arsenal," said Smith on Sky Sport's radio's Big Sports Breakfast.
"He shows the ball a lot, he's got a chip kick, he's got a grubber, he's got a good long kicking game and it can be hard to pick what he's going to do when he's got the ball in his hands.
"On the other hand, you know Mickey Ennis is going to be in your face the whole time and he's going to make the game pretty tough for you when he's in defence.
"He's (Ennis) going to try and frustrate the ball players and get in the face of Locky (Darren Lockyer) when he's kicking and Johnathan Thurston when he's kicking. He's sort of at you all game.
"In different ways you don't really want to play against either of those two guys, but I've sort of got the feeling they will go with Mick Ennis for this first match given that he played in three last year and that he's been in pretty good form for the Bulldogs as well."
Smith is coming off a great weekend when he starred for Australia in their 20-10 victory over New Zealand on Friday night before producing the match-sealing play in Melbourne's thrilling 29-22 NRL victory over Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.
The Storm game was in the balance until the final minute when Melbourne winger Anthony Quinn won a mad scramble for a Smith grubber kick.
