AFL games streaks end for Cornes, Jolly
Kane Cornes' run of 174 consecutive AFL matches is over, severed by a free-swinging Port Adelaide selection axe.
The two best current games streaks ended on Thursday, with Collingwood ruckman Darren Jolly also forced out of Friday night's game against Richmond with a knee injury.
Jolly had played 142 matches without missing but he will make way for backup ruckman Cameron Wood.
Cornes, a veteran of 209 senior games with Port, was among five unforced changes for Saturday night's Showdown against Adelaide as the Power try to turn around their horrid start to the season.
Port have no wins and a combined losing margin of 172 points from their opening three games.
They also dropped Danyle Pearce, Daniel Stewart, Jason Davenport and Jarrad Irons, while recalling Steven Salopek, Brett Ebert, Jacob Surjan, Michael Pettigrew and Cameron Hitchcock.
Cornes' run started in 2003 and he now has the ninth-longest consecutive games streak in AFL history, as well as the longest for his club.
While the Power were savage at selection, the Crows' injury problems worsened ahead of their local derby.
Ricky Henderson (face), Richard Tambling (ankle) and Taylor Walker (sore quad) are all in some doubt for the match.
Adelaide are already without Phil Davis (shoulder) and Scott Stevens (illness), with Myke Cook recalled and Luke Thompson promoted for his AFL debut.
Meanwhile, Richmond promoted former Melbourne tall utility Brad Miller for his first Tigers game and also recalled key defender Will Thursfield to bolster their defence against the Magpies.
They dropped Mitch Morton and Daniel Connors has a leg injury.
In the same week they lost Campbell Brown to suspension, Gold Coast also dropped fellow uncontracted signing Nathan Krakouer for Sunday's Gabba game against Melbourne.
The Suns left out Harley Bennell as well, but they regained veteran ruckman Josh Fraser and also brought four potential first gamers into the squad - Matt Shaw, Luke Russell, Hayden Jolly and Jack Hutchins.
Hawthorn welcomed back Sam Mitchell and Sam Rioli for Saturday's Launceston game against West Coast, losing Ben Stratton to a season-ending knee injury and leaving out Michael Osborne.
The Eagles brought back Brad Dalziell for Patrick McGinnity.
Essendon dropped Alwyn Davey in favour of Brent Prismall for Saturday's clash with old enemies Carlton, who recalled Lachie Henderson and Simon White at the expense of Brad Thornton and Matthew Watson.
Tom Hawkins has a back injury, forcing him out of Geelong's team for the Saturday night game against Sydney.
Mitch Duncan will also miss the trip because of soreness and they left out Allen Christensen.
They recalled Tom Lonergan, Andrew Mackie and David Wojcinski, while Sydney are unchanged.
