Auelua quits Toulon for Brumbies
The Brumbies have bolstered their backrow stocks for next season by signing Fotunuupule Auelua from French club Toulon.
The 27-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the Brumbies and the Australian Rugby Union, who will part of his salary.
Auelua said he thought long and hard before making the decision.
"It was a difficult decision to make because I feel really good at Toulon but I didn't want to look back on my career later on with regrets," he explained.
"It's a big challenge for me and a great opportunity."
The Wallabies are believed to have been following the player closely.
"There's nothing to say I will play for the Wallabies but in any case, (being based) in France I've got no chance of being called up," Auelua said.
Before returning to Australia, Auelua is set to spend seven months, from July 2011 to February 2012, playing for Tokyo-based club NTT Communications, where he will hook up with former coach Joseph Barakat, who is an assistant at the club.
