Griffin's job is safe for 2011 says White
Brisbane boss Paul White refuses to fuel speculation of a return by Wayne Bennett in 2012, insisting that Anthony Griffin's job is safe for the coming season.
White says Griffin will launch his NRL coaching career against the Cowboys on Friday night free of pressure or the fear of being dumped mid-season should the Broncos struggle.
"There's a lot of speculation out there about 2012 but we've got a coach for 2011 and he's the guy we want," White told AAP on Wednesday.
"I'm very happy with the decision we've made for 2011 and I'm not going to add fuel to speculation at this early stage of the season."
However, with a number of major projects tucked away -- including the club's official season launch and its fan day -- White said he would "make time" to sit down with the board to study the club's coaching options for 2012 and beyond.
"When the time is right and with clarity of thought and consideration, we'll make some decisions about what we want to do in 2012," he said.
Asked if either he or operations manager Andrew Gee had already sounded out Bennett for 2012, White said: "I haven't."
"Other clubs may choose (to chase Bennett) but I don't think it's professional to do that.
"It lets people down, it creates expectation and that only builds pressure on you to manage the situation.
"We know the process we need to go through and we won't be pressured externally."
Griffin takes the reins of the NRL's highest profile club amid persistent talk that Bennett is heading home.
He knows all eyes will be on him when he makes his debut but he said he wasn't putting too much emphasis on Friday night's result.
"It will be like any other result," he said.
"It's a 24 week season. We want to get away to a great start as do the Cowboys but we won't be living and dying by Friday night's result.
"Everyone wants to win round one because you've been training and trialling for so long but it won't be the end of world if we don't get the result."
Griffin appears calm and keeps a straight face much like Bennett, but White, who knows both men well, said he disliked making comparisons.
"I think he has some basic humility about him which does endear people to him," he said.
"Externally Hook (Griffin) is very calm which is the way he manages his players so well.
"He appears very calm but I'm sure there's an emotional side to him. He cares a lot about his players and they sense that.
"There's a fire and intensity inside which doesn't come out, but which drives all good coaches.
"I know on Friday night that fire will be burning strong inside him."
