Neagle set to rejoin Bombers as rookie
Delisted Essendon forward Jay Neagle is on track to rejoin the AFL club through next week's rookie draft.
New coach James Hird cut the 22-year-old, son of Bombers premiership player Merv Neagle, several weeks ago, over unhappiness with his physical condition and workrate.
But, after offering Neagle a chance to earn redemption on the training track, Hird said the youngster's response should be enough for the Bombers to rookie-list him through the December 7 draft.
"Jay's been doing very, very well," Hird said.
"For all the downside you get from giving a player a rocket and giving them a wake-up with obviously delisting him, his performances over the past three weeks have been really exceptional.
"He's got another week to go, I think the draft is Tuesday week, so if he continues to go in the fashion he's going then we'll put him back on."
Also training with the Bombers with an eye to the rookie draft have been former Sydney player Ryan Brabazon and 204cm former NBL basketballer Chris Molitor.
Meanwhile, 17 players delisted from AFL clubs have nominated for the pre-season draft, also on December 7.
They include ex-Collingwood utility John Anthony, who is aiming to get to Fremantle.
Former Melbourne best and fairest Cameron Bruce has been training with Hawthorn, while ex-Bomber Bachar Houli appears headed for Richmond.
Long-time Western Bulldogs utility Mitch Hahn, who has been training with the Dogs and has been guaranteed a rookie spot if he wants it, has also been nominated for the pre-season draft.
So has discarded Melbourne key forward Brad Miller, who is expected to end up with the Tigers as a rookie.
