Robert Harvey to return to St Kilda
St Kilda coach Ross Lyon says he's excited to have dual Brownlow Medallist Robert Harvey returning to Moorabbin after two seasons on Carlton's coaching panel.
Carlton midfield coach Harvey, whose decorated 383-game playing career ended in 2008, has informed the Blues he'll accept a role as assistant coach with St Kilda for next season.
Lyon said in working with Harvey during the final two years of the champion midfielder's career, he appreciated Harvey's passion for the club.
"For the playing group, it will be exciting for them to welcome Robert back and we all look forward to working with him for a number of years to come," Lyon said on Monday.
"With a brilliant football mind and coaching experience, Robert is sure to add a great amount of depth to our coaching department next year."
The departure of Harvey was one of three coaching changes announced by the Blues on Monday.
"Following discussions at the end of the season, Brett Montgomery and Matthew Lappin understood the club's position in wishing to make changes to the coaching panel and a mutual decision was made not to extend their contracts for 2011," Carlton said in a statement.
Port Adelaide 2004 premiership player Montgomery last month withdrew his application for the vacant coaching role at Port, which has since been handed to Matthew Primus for next season.
Montgomery has been on Carlton's coaching staff for three years, serving as forwards coach in 2008 and as defensive coach for the past two seasons.
Former Carlton small forward Lappin was the Blues development coach in 2008 and for the past two seasons he has been in charge of the forward line.
Carlton General Manager Football Operations Steven Icke thanked Lappin, Harvey and Montgomery for their service to the club.
"We will now seek to find the best possible people to join our coaching panel in what will be the first major changes to our coaching team for two seasons," he said.
The Blues reached the elimination final this year under coach Brett Ratten.
