Fremantle have restructured their coaching department in the wake of Chris Scott's defection to Geelong, promoting development coach Simon Lloyd and luring Oakleigh Chargers coach Steve Grace to the AFL club.

Lloyd has been promoted to the role of an assistant but he will still oversee the club's development academy, which has successfully integrated a host of talented youngsters over the past two years.

Grace, who has coached the Chargers in the TAC Cup since 2009, will join recently appointed development coaches Jason McCartney and Ashley Prescott, plus part-timer Shaun McManus in the Dockers' development academy.

Lloyd, who was appointed head of Fremantle's development academy in September last year, will join Barry Mitchell, Todd Curley and Michael Prior as assistants to senior coach Mark Harvey.

"The establishment of our development academy has been a strategic focus of the club since 2008," Fremantle football operations manager Chris Bond said.

"Simon's role as head of the academy is integral to its ongoing growth and improvement, particularly given his expertise in the area and the fact that since 2008 we have added 25 young players to our list.

"Simon's coaching and football credentials mean that he is ideally placed to assist the coaching team with our aim of achieving sustained success."

Scott, who had been an integral part of Fremantle's coaching set-up since joining the club in 2008, was announced as Geelong's new coach on Monday.
