Ablett will join team-mates next month
It will be seven weeks before Gold Coast messiah Gary Ablett meets the rest of the Suns' flock but he's already kicked a goal for the fledgling AFL club.
Since he announced last Wednesday that he was leaving the Cats to join the fledgling AFL club on a five-year deal worth a reported $9.5 million, the Suns' website traffic and membership enquires have spiked.
The Suns had an enormous amount of Queensland media and public interest when it signed Brisbane Bronco Karmichael Hunt more than a year ago but it fades into comparison by Ablett's defection north.
"Most definitely there's been a difference," Suns' communications manager Greg Price told AAP.
"There's a real buzz around town.
"We have already had almost 1000 people come in for membership for next year and our website traffic has been massive."
The former Geelong star will report for duty, as will the remainder of the Suns' out-of-contract recruits Michael Rischitelli (Brisbane), Jarrod Harbrow (Western Bulldogs), Nathan Krakouer (Port Adelaide) and Nathan Bock (Adelaide), on November 22.
That will be the first time the new AFL club's playing list will gather as one.
"They'll all come together on November 22," Price said.
"The first group of players return for pre-season on October 18 and that includes Karmichael Hunt.
"The second group returns on November 1 and then it's the uncontracted players."
