Cats into bat for Ablett
Geelong have made their final sales pitch to keep Gary Ablett as the odds shorten he will go to the Gold Coast Suns and become the AFL's highest-paid player.
Ablett's manager Liam Pickering met with Geelong's chief executive Brian Cook and football boss Neil Balme on Thursday.
It is believed the Cats put their final offer to Pickering, with Ablett not part of the meeting.
But Pickering was tight-lipped as he left the meeting in Geelong, saying Ablett had not made any final decision whether to stay with the Cats or join the AFL's newest club from next season.
"I'll take it to Gary and he'll make his decision over the next few days," Pickering told reporters after the meeting.
"Everyone thinks they know what's going on, but they don't."
Brownlow Medallist Ablett is believed to have been offered $1.5 million a season to join Gold Coast, who have extra cash in their salary cap for their AFL debut.
Should he stay with the Cats, he would do so for substantially less money.
Western Bulldogs defender Jarrod Harbrow was confirmed as the Suns' latest signing earlier this week, and is the biggest name the fledgling club has managed to snare so far.
