Wallabies discard Ioane named for QLD XV
Wallabies discard Digby Ioane heads a Queensland XV that will tackle an Alan Jones-coached Barbarians in Brisbane on Sunday.
Barely 24 hours after being cut for the Wallabies' Tri Nations squad, Ioane was on Tuesday named in the Queensland XV captained by retired flanker David Croft.
The Queensland XV will not feature any current Wallabies squad members but still boasts an experienced line-up including Morgan Turinui, Greg Holmes, Quade Cooper, Ben Lucas and Van Humphries.
In all, the Queensland team boasts 11 players with Super 14 experience.
The Barbarians team is expected to be announced later on Tuesday.
But former All Blacks Scott Robertson and Justin Marshall, England World Cup-winning winger Dan Luger, Argentina's Gonzalo Quesada and ex-Wallabies and Reds star Toutai Kefu have already been touted for the Barbarians team.
The Ballymore match will raise funds for a Reds off-season development tour and Brisbane's embattled Souths Rugby Club, the former home of ex-Wallabies such as Andrew Slack, Jason Little, Tim Horan and Dan Crowley.
Queensland XV: Aidan Toua, Digby Ioane, Morgan Turinui, Charlie Fetoai, Blair Connor, Quade Cooper, Ben Lucas, Leroy Houston, David Croft (c), Poutasi Luafutu, Van Humphries, James Slipper, Sean Hardman, Greg Holmes. Reserves: Ben Daley, James Hansen, Liam Shaw, Dan Linde, Brendan McKibbin, Matt Brandon, Luke Morahan.
