Socceroos get stamp of approval
Australia Post is hoping to kick a goal with stamp collectors by issuing souvenir stamps featuring the Socceroos on the eve of the World Cup in South Africa.
A stamp sheet with 10 images of Socceroo stars in action will go on sale at Australia Post outlets on Wednesday.
Australia Post philatelic group manager Noel Leahy says the stamp issue enables Australians to show their support for the nation's best players as they strut their stuff on the world football stage.
Football Federation Australia chief executive Ben Buckley said the players were "humbled to be honoured in philatelic form".
"Our players know that they will be carrying the hopes of a nation when they take the field in South Africa," he said.
"For them to be immortalised on a postage stamp is a fantastic honour and we thank Australia Post for recognising the Qantas Socceroos in this manner."
Australia Post issued a similar stamp series before the Socceroos' World Cup appearance in 2006.
