Socceroos chase Klinsmann as 2010 coach
Football Federation Australia (FFA) are reportedly chasing Germany's World Cup coach Jurgen Klinsmann to guide the Socceroos to the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.
Dutch master coach Guus Hiddink, who guided Australia to the round of 16 in Germany last year, is currently in charge of the Russian national side.
Fairfax newspapers reported FFA chairman Frank Lowy's son Peter had tried to open discussions with the California-based Klinsmann in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
"Top of the menu was the Socceroos' 2010 World Cup campaign," the newspaper said.
FFA declined to confirm the meeting had taken place, the report added.
Klinsmann had discussions with the US team last year but eventually broke off talks about a possible head coaching role.
Frank Lowy has told Socceroos coach Graham Arnold he will be in charge of the team until after the Asian Cup in July.
