Wilkinson in doubt for Aussie, NZ tour
England's Jonny Wilkinson is in doubt for next month's tour of Australia and New Zealand after injuring his back in Toulon's European Challenge final defeat by Cardiff on Sunday.
The 2003 World Cup hero is set to undergo scans on Tuesday in a bid to pinpoint the sudden injury which forced him out for the second half of his side's 28-21 loss in Marseille.
The England five-eighth had to leave the field just six minutes into the second half, prompting concern for club and country.
Toulon manager Philippe Saint-Andre said Wilkinson, who felt a sudden pain in his back and had to pull out of taking a penalty, may now be a doubt for England's tour, which includes two games against the Wallabies in Perth and Sydney.
"We don't know if he has serious bruising or a fractured rib or cartilage," said Saint-Andre.
"We should know more Tuesday when he undergoes a medical scan," said Saint-Andre, admitting that if the injury was "serious" Wilkinson could be ruled out of the tour.
