Reds recall Byrnes to face Stormers
Queensland Reds have recalled abrasive lock Adam Byrnes to replace the injured Van Humphries for Friday night's Super 14 clash with the Stormers at Suncorp Stadium.
Melbourne Rebels-bound Byrnes has missed the last two Reds wins after starting the season in the second row but Humphries' ankle injury gives him the chance to regain his place.
Reds coach Ewen McKenzie has stuck to his forward-oriented approach in dealing with their last South African challenge by keeping five forwards on the bench.
McKenzie has left the bench unchanged following last week's 19-12 upset of the Bulls, with only two backs in Ben Lucas and Brando Va'aulu listed as reserves.
The fourth-placed Reds expect the third-placed Stormers to deliver the same physical challenge of the four previous South African sides they have met in succession.
"This is the fifth South African side we'll have faced in as many weeks and each of their last four had particular strengths," McKenzie said.
"The Stormers combine elements of all four of those, so Friday is a bit like a final exam for all the work we've done over the past four weekends."
