Hayne saviour if others follow: Burt
Jarryd Hayne will lead the NRL recovery for embattled Parramatta but only if the rest of the side lifts, Eels winger Luke Burt says.
The Eels became a club in crisis on Monday night after sinking to their fourth loss in the first five rounds of the season, going down 24-14 to Canberra.
Burt said the team, which showed so much flair in attack late in the 2009 season, was lacking confidence but rejected claims Hayne was failing to impose himself on the game.
The 28-year-old said last year's Dally M Medal winner was putting his all into trying to win, it was just up the rest of the side to put in the same effort and provide opportunities for him.
"It's just a matter of us getting on board and making that room for Haynesy like we did last year," Burt said.
"When the rest of the team played well, it opened up for Haynesy a bit more."
"He's one of the players that plays hard and it (a win) is going to come from him as well."
Burt said the loss to the Raiders was a "slight" improvement on the side's dismal 11-0 loss to Cronulla a week ago but the Eels were still making silly decisions on the field.
Eels chief executive Paul Osborne implored Parramatta fans to hang in there and support the team, assuring them the side would turn around their fortunes by the end of the season at least.
"They (the fans) will hang in there and our boys won't disappointed them before the season is over," he said.
Osborne said off the field, the club had never been in better shape with record-breaking corporate sponsorship and securing more than 10,000 members.
However he said it was disappointing the performances on the paddock have not been able to match.
