Henjak poised to make changes at Broncos
The pain is set to get worse for a battling Brisbane with coach Ivan Henjak tipped to make at least two major changes to his squad for Friday's NRL clash against St George Illawarra in Wollongong.
Henjak would not reveal his hand after a brutal 90 minute hit-out at Red Hill on Monday but it was significant that he ran a number of players in various positions during training.
Brisbane find themselves in last place on the NRL ladder after a disappointing 1-3 start to their season and games looming against the Dragons, Canterbury, Newcastle and Melbourne.
"We've steeled ourselves. We know things will turn around, it may be a week, two weeks or it may be four weeks, but we know we will come out of this," said Henjak.
"I don't care if we are last, the fans might, but it doesn't bother me.
"All I want to see is some commitment and a good attitude from the players, whether we're winning or not doesn't really matter.
"We've been here before, we know how to turn things around.
"The players can turn things around next week if they really want to."
With Brisbane sweating on captain Darren Lockyer's announcement on his representative future on Tuesday, Henjak has some selection issues following another unacceptable display against the Roosters on a bad Good Friday.
"We've waited all this time, what's one more day," said Henjak when asked which way he thought Lockyer may go.
Hooker Andrew McCullough laid it on the line when asked if constant talk about so many young, inexperienced players being in the team was having a bad effect.
"If you're in the 17, you should be doing the job for the Broncos," said the 20-year-old McCullough.
"They've got a long legacy to uphold, they've been a great team since 1988.
"Whoever pulls on that jersey should be putting their hand up and wanting to have a go for 80 minutes.
"Age doesn't come into it.
"Young blokes have played Origin and played for Australia before, so age shouldn't be an excuse for us for the position we're in at the moment."
Things don't get any easier for Brisbane up against former coach Wayne Bennett's Dragons on Friday night who are coming off their first loss of the season against Melbourne.
"It's a big challenge but we're certainly up there with any other team when we want to perform on our day but we haven't shown that for the last three weeks.
"I'm sure we can turn that around this weekend if we change a few things and get into them," said McCullough
Redcliffe winger Mitch Rivett (ankle) is expected to be available after having a mixed debut against the Roosters.
