Burt reveals secret to Eels' turnaround
Parramatta veteran Luke Burt says a team decision to open up their game is behind the club's dramatic late season form turnaround.
After a 13-10 loss to Cronulla at Parramatta Stadium in round 13, the Eels had just three wins to their name, seemingly destined to miss out on the NRL's top eight.
But four wins from their past seven matches, including Saturday's 27-8 upset victory over the second-placed Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium, has given the Eels hope of sneaking into the finals.
The more-enterprising Eels have climbed to within just three points of the top eight.
"A few weeks ago we said that it's time to play some football and I think we're throwing the ball around a bit better since then," Burt told AAP.
"I think that's helped our game a lot. I can't really pinpoint exactly what it is but we're playing as a team really well and we're all going in the right direction."
Adding to the excitement around Parramatta in recent weeks has been the standard of the teams they're beating.
Aside from handing the Bulldogs their first home defeat of the season, the Eels have also downed competition heavyweights Melbourne, Newcastle and Brisbane in their revival.
But Burt says any talk of making the top eight from their current position is premature.
"If we play the right style of football with the right commitment, we can nearly beat anyone in the comp, which is good," he said.
"(Finals) are a long shot. We'd love for it to happen but we'll play it week by week because I think if we lose one or two, there's no point thinking about it.
"We really need to win next week and go from there."
The Eels have a golden opportunity to continue their resurgence next Sunday against on lowly-placed Cronulla at Toyota Park.
