Origin player Hannant hit with swine flu
Queensland Origin forward Ben Hannant has contracted swine flu and has been quarantined from the rest of his NRL teammates for two days.
The Bulldogs prop first started showing symptoms after performing strongly for the Maroons in their 28-18 win in the opening Origin game in Melbourne on Wednesday.
Victoria has 874 of the 1,039 cases of swine flu reported by Sunday night.
Hannant's illness isn't likely to be a problem for his Bulldogs teammates as he flew to the Gold Coast following the Origin match at Etihad Stadium to be with family and friends during the club's bye week.
There have not been any other reported cases of swine flu among the NSW and Queensland Origin teams to date.
A Bulldogs media spokesman said Hannant would be allowed to remain on the Gold Coast for the next 48 hours to recover from the illness.
"Yes he does have swine flu," the spokesman said.
"He is saying it is no big issue, he just feels like he has the flu.
"He is going to be quarantined for two days but he is confident of playing against the Broncos this Friday night.
"The Bulldogs will ensure that all necessary measures are taken."
The Sydney side tackle Brisbane on Friday night at Suncorp Stadium with the Maroons side for game two of the Origin series in Sydney on June 24 expected to be named on Monday week.
