Allen latest bronze at SFS
Rugby great Trevor Allen has become the latest sportsman to be immortalised in bronze at the Sydney Football Stadium.
Allen, who died in 2007 aged 80, joins Richie Benaud, Dally Messenger and Fred Spofforth as the fourth inductee into the Basil Sellers Sports Sculptures Project at the SFS and SCG.
The project will eventually celebrate 10 of Australia's greatest sportsmen.
The Allen sculpture was unveiled on Saturday by Sir Nicholas Shehadie, who played under Allen's captaincy between 1947-49.
The work of sculptor Terrance Plowright, it stands beside Dally Messenger in the SFS forecourt.
Allen played 14 Tests in 52 appearances for Australia before switching to rugby league with English club Leigh and North Sydney.
He famously led the Wallabies to their 1949 Bledisloe Cup series win over New Zealand, a feat that was not repeated for another 30 years.
