We'll keep backing Lovett, say Bombers
Essendon will continue to support Andrew Lovett, despite the AFL midfielder's latest off-field indiscretion.
Lovett will face court later this month to answer charges of driving while unlicensed.
He lost his licence last year after a build-up of demerit points and it is understood Lovett was caught driving earlier this year.
"Andrew's actions are unacceptable and he will now face the consequences of the law," Bombers chief executive Peter Jackson said on Wednesday in a club statement.
"He needs to understand the community has standards and he like all of us has a responsibility to meet them."
"We will continue to work with Andrew to help him make better decisions in his life.
"It has been a challenge for him - and remains one - but we believe as a club we have the support networks in place that will give him the best chance of meeting community expectations on an on-going basis."
Privately, Essendon are encouraged by Lovett's off-field behaviour in the last few months and see this as a one-off setback.
They nearly traded him at the end of last season after twice serving club-imposed suspensions.
Lovett, who is blessed with great pace, has been one of the Bombers' top players so far this year.
But coach Matthew Knights has often said that Lovett needs to keep working on his lifestyle and regularly meets with the onballer.
