Theo Janssen scored from a 90th-minute free kick for FC Twente to salvage a 1-1 draw at Heerenveen in the Dutch league on Saturday.

After losing to Feyenoord last weekend, Steve McClaren's Twente dropped more points in the race for a top-two spot and a place in next season's Champions League.

Twente remained second in the Eredivisie but only two points ahead of Ajax, which could overtake when it hosts newly crowned Dutch champion AZ Alkmaar on Sunday.

Saturday's match was a preview of the Dutch Cup final and gave Heerenveen a measure of revenge for a 6-0 thrashing earlier this year at Twente.

Paulo Henrique headed Heerenveen into the lead in the 77th off a pass from Danijel Pranjic before Janssen converted a 25-metre free kick in the final minute.

Balazs Dzsudzsak and Danny Koevermans scored as PSV beat Heracles Almelo 2-0 to keep the Eindhoven team in fourth place and on target for a spot in next season's Europa League, the rebranded UEFA Cup.

At the other end of the table, second-to-last Roda JC drew 1-1 with Volendam, which was just one point and place higher. Bottom of the league De Graafschap drew 0-0 with Sparta Rotterdam on Friday in the battle to avoid relegation.

Also on Friday, VVV Venlo won promotion into the Dutch topflight by beating Haarlem 1-0.
