Lewsey to sign off with Barbarians
World Cup winner Josh Lewsey is set to make the final appearance of his professional career in England when playing for the Barbarians against England at Twickenham on May 30.
"It's a real honour to have the opportunity to play for the Barbarians," Lewsey, said in a statement issued on Thursday.
"In an era of professionalism it is a club that upholds the value of sport at its best and to that end it will be an honour to play for them at the end of my career," added Wasps back Lewsey, a member of the England side that won the 2003 World Cup, who also won Premiership and European honours with his club.
The Barbarians squad also includes France's Serge Betsen, New Zealand's Luke McAllister and England's Martin Corry.
The final game of Lewsey's professional career is due to be played in Australia when the Barbarians play the Wallabies in Sydney on June 6.
Lewsey won 55 caps in all, after making his England debut on the infamous 1998 'Tour From Hell' in the southern hemisphere, and also appeared in three Tests for the British and Irish Lions during their losing tour of New Zealand four years ago.
However, he called time on his England career in December after failing to find a place in the team for November's home internationals at Twickenham.
Earlier this month, he announced his intention to retire before the start of the next northern hemisphere season.
